Who is Peter Francisco?

Peter Francisco (1760–1831) was a Portuguese-born giant of the American Revolution, famed for his incredible strength and bravery in battles like Camden and Guilford Courthouse. George Washington reportedly called him “a one-man army” and he was perhaps the most famous private soldier of the Revolutionary War.

Celebrated on March 15 in Virginia, Peter Francisco Day honors the legendary bravery at the 1781 Battle of Guilford Courthouse, where Peter fought valiantly against British forces and is remembered on the American Cavalry Monument.

Join us on March 14 in Greensboro, NC as we remember and honor Peter's bravery 250 years later.
